The IEMSR gives its Inaugural Lesson and presents its new graduation class

The IEMSR will give its Inaugural Lesson on Friday 27th January from 2.00pm to 5.30pm at Skema Business School at 60 rue Dostoïevski in Sophia Antipolis

The event will be presided over by Mr Badaoui Rouhban, Director of the Section for Disaster Reduction at UNESCO.

The inaugural lesson will be given by Mr Jean-François Stephan, Director of the National Institute of Universe Sciences at CNRS: Natural and anthropogenic risks in the Mediterranean in the context of global change.
It will be followed by a round table on the subject: Risk and insurance: an unhappy couple? Prominent companies, including LAFARGE, TrésoRisk Conseil, The Warranty Group and Tuillet Risk & Management will take part in this discussion.

A new graduation class
October 2011, the IEMSR welcomed the new graduation class which forms part of the M1 year of the core curriculum for the Masters in Risk Science.

At the same time, the IEMSR opened an M2 specialising in financial and insurance risks. Students were able to join this year directly depending on their previous courses or can follow it in October 2012 after the M1 of the core curriculum.

An international and multi-disciplinary class
Students come from Egypt, Italy, Mali, Morocco and Tunisia. They are engineers, biologists, economists, lawyers...
They were firstly selected by their home universities, then by the IEMSR for their worthiness and motivation.

Training for a new job
The IEMSR trains students in the role of "global risk manager". These are future executives in the public and private sector, who will be able to adapt to international problems, identify, anticipate and manage risks, collectively and sustainably whether those risks are financial, legal, natural, industrial...
The institute is working on defining the profile and skills for the job of risk manager within the scope of the National Commission for the Directory of Jobs, in view of its certification and validation of the knowledge acquired.

A Euro-Mediterranean qualification
Since July 2011, the IEMSR diploma has been EMUNI accredited (Euro-Mediterranean University). Furthermore, the Institute has signed qualification agreements with around forty partner universities and schools which allow students to receive a double (if the student arrives at the IEMSR in the 2nd year) or triple (if the student arrives at the IEMSR in the 1st year) qualification in Risk Science: that from their home university/school, that from their 2nd year of speciality and/or that from the IEMSR.

A developing Institute
For the 2012 academic year, the IEMSR plans to offer two new specialities:

  • Extreme natural risks with GeoAZUR and the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University in Fez
  • Risks and cultural heritage with the Ministry for Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing
  • Risks at work with the University of Marseilles and Tor Vergata of Rome

After previously concentrating on the southern Mediterranean, in 2011 the IEMSR focused its development on the northern Mediterranean with the Universities of Bosnia, Croatia, Hungary, Italy, Serbia and Slovenia.

They chose the Côte d'Azur

"Sophia-Antipolis is a very attractive region for any semiconductor company, for several reasons. The first one is that in the technology park of Sophia-Antipolis there is a solid tradition of analog and digital design, which is due to the presence of other big companies working in the same or similar markets, like Texas Instruments, Intel, STM and others. The second reason is linked to presence in the technology park of the Polytech'Nice-Sophia and other important schools.

That will guarantee our future growth since the region will always offer both experienced design engineers and you talents to hire."
