Grasse: Launch of the BioPreserv business within InnovaGrasse

BioPreserv is a biology/analytical chemistry laboratory dedicated to the fields of biocides and antimicrobial R&D

Interview with Thierry LACOUR (TL) PhD biotechnology

Investincotedazur.com (ICA): Can you tell us more about your company?

TL: We are two founders from the same major international group (Rohm and Haas / Dow Chemical). Inspired by our previous roles, BioPreserv’s business is focused on technical and regulatory support for users, producers of finished products (cosmetics, detergents, construction materials) and producers and distributors of biocides.

ICA: What are the specific characteristics of your offer?

TL: We primarily provide our clients with several decades of experience in research and development as well as regulation in an industrial and international environment. BioPreserv is both a biology and analytical chemistry laboratory and an expert service in regulation.

We provide a turn-key service and help our clients to combine texts and define the experimental protocol to customise their projects. With a single contact who coordinates all three services (biology, analytical chemistry and regulation), our clients therefore get the necessary reactivity and accuracy to resolve or prevent contamination problems in their products in reduced timeframes.

ICA: You have set up your business within the InnovaGrasse incubator for innovative companies, what are the advantages of joining this type of organisation?

TL: The incubator provides good momentum for growth with real support. Every month there are themed workshops.

Furthermore, we have an office and also a laboratory available to us. The proximity with the fine chemistry school helps to create true professional gateways. The students who work here can collaborate on projects.

ICA: What contact do you have with the competitiveness clusters, research laboratories, etc.?

TL: BioPreserv’s activity in microbiology and REACH/biocide regulations in Europe is our core business and fully consistent with the PASS cluster’s remit (Perfumes, Fragrances, Flavours), of which I am a member.

BioPreserv is also supported by the PACA EST business incubator and develops partnerships on research projects with a university laboratory

ICA: What are your development prospects?

TL: The implementation of European regulations in various business sectors forces manufacturers to find new solutions to ensure the microbiological protection of their products. So, in the cosmetics sector, the project to ban parabens and phthalates means the unavoidable reformulation of many products. BioPreserv has the necessary expertise to assist manufacturers who have to deal with the constant changes resulting from these European regulations.

They chose the Côte d'Azur

"Sophia-Antipolis is a very attractive region for any semiconductor company, for several reasons. The first one is that in the technology park of Sophia-Antipolis there is a solid tradition of analog and digital design, which is due to the presence of other big companies working in the same or similar markets, like Texas Instruments, Intel, STM and others. The second reason is linked to presence in the technology park of the Polytech'Nice-Sophia and other important schools.

That will guarantee our future growth since the region will always offer both experienced design engineers and you talents to hire."
