NFC continues to grow in France. In early 2011, the four Cityzi mobile operators (Bouygues Telecom, Orange, SFR and NRJ Mobile) announced that they would sell over one million NFC Cityzi mobiles. It’s now a done deal.

The symbolic milestone of one million French people with a NFC Cityzi smartphone has been exceeded.

"For several years, the mobile operators Bouygues Telecom, NRJ Mobile, Orange and SFR have made mobile contactless a priority" says a Cityzi representative. A success which is due in part to the growing number of partner smartphones that include contactless technology.

Furthermore, in partnership with the AFSCM (the French Association of Mobile Contactless) Cityzi has also redesigned its website to improve the presentation of its services. Cityzi has successfully been implemented locally in the cities of Nice and Strasbourg.

In addition to mobile payments, the Cityzi SIM cards can be used to interact with street furniture in order to obtain local information or set parking ticket machines. Finally, the last benefit with this NFC chip is the ability to use it as a travel card for public transport.

Today, 10 cities have NFC projects, to Nice and Strasbourg, already massively equipped, are added Bordeaux, Caen, Lille, Marseille, Paris, Rennes and Toulouse which will cater for contactless technology on a large scale. The operators are convinced that France is involved in a massive development that is expected to reach 2.5 Cityzi mobiles by late 2012.

They chose the Côte d'Azur

"Sophia-Antipolis is a very attractive region for any semiconductor company, for several reasons. The first one is that in the technology park of Sophia-Antipolis there is a solid tradition of analog and digital design, which is due to the presence of other big companies working in the same or similar markets, like Texas Instruments, Intel, STM and others. The second reason is linked to presence in the technology park of the Polytech'Nice-Sophia and other important schools.

That will guarantee our future growth since the region will always offer both experienced design engineers and you talents to hire."
