The Côte d'Azur hosts the first NFC World Congress

The Côte d’Azur was selected for its “contactless ecosystem” which contributes to the promotion of these technologies and their development

The Côte d’Azur, where the natural development market is that of mobile communications is currently (19-21 september, 2011) hosting the first NFC World Congress. This is a new opportunity for Team Côte d’Azur to present the benefits of establishing premises in Nice and Sophia Antipolis to the young community which is forming around NFC.

A pioneer in the uses of NFC[1] (Near Field Communication) with the Nice "mobile contactless" operation and innovating through the presence of leading contactless technology companies in Sophia Antipolis, the Côte d’Azur was selected for its “contactless ecosystem” which contributes to the promotion of these technologies and their development.

The exhibition-conference bearing the slogan “Joining the NFC revolution” brings together the entire NFC value chain to make this technology a commercial reality.

Over three days, small start-ups (Airtag, Adelya, Connecthings…) and the sector’s giants (Orange, NXP, Gemalto, Oberthur, Sony, Samsung, Visa, Veolia…) alike will benefit from a unique platform where they can share knowledge and business opportunities with over 2500 professional participants.

The international conference, created by a programme committee of 25 experts and major organisations present in the NFC ecosystem, features over 50 high-level speakers. The opening session was presented by Anne Bouverot, Director General of the GSMA and Koichi Tagawa, Chairman of the NFC Forum.

The conference programme features best business models, latest innovations, market trends and strategies, new business opportunities (developing m-payments for transport ticket systems and new services), lessons to be drawn from major deployments across the world, challenges still to be overcome, etc.

At the same time a dedicated area will present the latest NFC innovations.

Team Côte d’Azur, a vital organisation for promoting the benefits of the region and facilitating the establishment of new companies

For several years, the Côte d’Azur investment promotion agency has focused on increasing initiatives to encourage the development of NFC across the region. In particular, in December 2010 and February 2011, it welcomed delegations from South Korea and Singapore respectively, to inform them of the Nice “Contactless City” operation and hold discussions with the project’s key organisations. On 27th and 28th April 2011 Team Côte d’Azur also welcomed France's 9 pilot NFC cities, including Nice, to mark the 1st workshop of the Contactless Mobile Services Forum.

Team Côte d’Azur is regularly accompanied to major international “mobility” events by companies based in the region so that together they can promote the region and attract new companies to it.  These events include the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, CEBIT in Hanover, WIMA NFC and MedPI in Monaco, etc., and also national and local events such as conferences held by the SCS Cluster, Inria, the SAME Association and Telecom Valley.

It is therefore natural for Team Côte d’Azur representatives to be present at the NFC World Congress, especially on the Nice Côte d’Azur stand, to conduct prospecting initiatives. During a working lunch, they will present the example of the opening of an NFC development centre in Sophia Antipolis in 2009.

They chose the Côte d'Azur

"Sophia-Antipolis is a very attractive region for any semiconductor company, for several reasons. The first one is that in the technology park of Sophia-Antipolis there is a solid tradition of analog and digital design, which is due to the presence of other big companies working in the same or similar markets, like Texas Instruments, Intel, STM and others. The second reason is linked to presence in the technology park of the Polytech'Nice-Sophia and other important schools.

That will guarantee our future growth since the region will always offer both experienced design engineers and you talents to hire."
