In June 2025, Nice will be at the center of global attention as it hosts the United Nations Conference on Oceans: UNOC 2025.
A first for France, this international summit will bring together leaders and governments from around the world for a week of discussions and decisions about the future of our planet.
The President of the French Republic and the United Nations have chosen the city of Nice for this global summit.
UNOC 2025: United Nations Conference on Oceans
This international event aims to discuss issues related to sustainable management of oceans and marine resources.
The conference aims to raise awareness among the global public about the need to protect the oceans responsibly, in order to ensure a sustainable future for future generations.
The conference will bring together delegates from UN member states, as well as representatives from civil society, industry, and science.
Delegates will discuss topics such as the protection of marine ecosystems, the prevention of marine pollution, the fight against climate change and its impacts on the oceans, as well as the conservation of marine resources.
The conference will also be an opportunity to develop strategies for more effective ocean management and to initiate international agreements for the protection of the oceans.
In 2025, the United Nations Conference on Oceans will play a key role in the implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, especially Goal 14, which aims to conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
It will also be an opportunity to take stock of the progress made since the first conference in 2017 and to determine plans for more sustainable ocean management in the future.
Reaction of Christian ESTROSI, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, and Delegate President of the Provence Alpes Côte-d’Azur Region:
“I am delighted with the President of the French Republic and the United Nations’ decision to choose Nice to host this global event. It is a recognition of Nice’s commitment to the preservation of marine environments.
Faced with the challenges of climate change and the erosion of biodiversity, Nice is implementing a concrete ecological transition, which is already having an impact on air quality, modes of transport, the preservation of water resources, and the protection of ecosystems.
The President of the French Republic’s decision to choose Nice as the host city for this international summit also attests, just a few months after its inclusion on the UNESCO World Heritage List, to our city’s ability to prepare for and host the largest international events in the service of France’s influence.”
