The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis Accelerates Towards Sustainable Mobility

Sustainable Mobility Nice

Key Highlights:

  1. Continuation and funding of major sustainable transport projects, including the extension of tramway lines and the electrification of buses.
  2. Significant development of cycling infrastructure, aiming for a 10% modal share of cycling by 2026.
  3. Expansion of the electric vehicle charging network, with a goal surpassed two years ahead of the scheduled deadline.

Ecological Transition and Sustainable Transport: The 2024 Milestone

The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis is implementing an ambitious ecological transition plan focused on the development of sustainable transportation.

The year 2024 marks a key step in this journey, with the continuation of funding for structuring mobility projects.

Tramway lines 4 and 5 will benefit from crucial operations for their deployment, including land acquisitions and preparatory work.

Simultaneously, the electrification of the bus fleet and the expansion of the capacities of tramway line 1 reflect the Metropolis’s commitment to clean and efficient mobility.

The Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis continues to improve multimodal exchange hubs (PEMs), notably with the recent commissioning of new infrastructures at Nice Saint-Augustin and the progress of works at Cagnes-sur-Mer, aiming for efficient interconnection between various modes of transport while awaiting the construction of Europe’s first bioclimatic station planned for 2028..

These initiatives, including studies for the Beaulieu-sur-Mer PEM, reflect a commitment to smooth and integrated urban mobility.

Development of Cycling Infrastructures

The goal of achieving a 10% modal share of cycling by 2026 is materializing through significant investments in the cycling path network and associated services.

The year 2024 will see the completion of major cycling links, such as the Nice-La Trinité two-way cycle path, strengthening the network between municipalities.

The introduction of a new bike-sharing scheme, extended to six additional municipalities, illustrates the desire to promote a sustainable and accessible alternative to individual car use.

Electric Charging Infrastructure: A Major Advance for Electric Vehicles

The increase in charging points for electric vehicles is part of the Metropolis’s overall strategy for decarbonizing mobility. By the beginning of 2024, 600 charging points have been installed, allowing the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis to be two years ahead of its initial objectives, thus encouraging the adoption of clean vehicles by its residents and visitors.

This progress, combined with the deployment of shared electric mobility solutions, positions the Metropolis as a model of energy transition in the field of transportation.
