The Vestiaire à MoT in Nice: At the Intersection of Sport and Culture, a New Place to Live and Work

Located in the heart of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, at 19 boulevard Joseph Garnier in Nice, the “Vestiaire à MoT” is a living space created by Marc-Olivier Taccard, whose career has been divided between sports journalism and a significant collaboration with AS Monaco.

This unique bookstore in France, born from the combination of his passions for sport and literature, offers an immersion into the world of sports stories and other services that make this hybrid space a place for exchanges, meetings, and co-working.

Its founder aims to make this new address in Nice a rallying point for lovers of culture and sport, thus contributing to enriching the cultural and sports ecosystem of the territory.

Interview with Marc-Olivier Taccard, Founder of the Vestiaire à MoT

What is the story of the Vestiaire à MoT?

The story of the Vestiaire à MoT is closely linked to my own journey. My adventure began long before the opening of the bookstore, in the years when my life was entirely dedicated to sport, first as a sports journalist and then working for AS Monaco. These experiences not only gave me a privileged insight into the world of professional sport but also allowed me to develop a deep appreciation for sports stories, whether they are of victories or defeats.

Throughout my career, I have been fascinated by how sports stories can inspire, motivate, and even change lives. This fascination turned into a passion for sports literature, an area that I have always found underrepresented in traditional bookstores. I often found myself looking for specific books without success, which led me to consider filling this gap myself.

The Vestiaire à MoT was born from this reflection. It is a project that combines my two great passions: sport and books. The idea was to create a space where sports stories are celebrated and shared, a place where sports enthusiasts of all backgrounds can come together to explore the richness and diversity of sports literature, as well as other current topics.

The genesis of the project echoed my desire to find a meaningful project that reflects my interests and passions while adding value to others. After leaving AS Monaco, I decided to devote myself to this dream. The Vestiaire à MoT therefore represents a new chapter for me, a personal and professional adventure that allows me to share my passion for sport and reading with others.

These initiatives aim to encourage the sharing of experiences and ideas. For example, to work on the atmosphere of the place, with Cécile, who is retraining in interior architecture, we worked with Les Fées Contraires in Grasse, a recycling center of the Soli-Cités association’s reinsertion scheme. They created the Vestiaire’s bicycle table. It challenges. It questions. We shared our ideas and created an unusual object related to sport. That’s the essence of the project.

Ultimately, the Vestiaire à MoT is the fruit of my life dedicated to sport and my passion for literature. It is a space where these two worlds meet, a place where stories of perseverance, determination, and sporting passion are told and celebrated. I hope that the Vestiaire à MoT will become a meeting point for sports enthusiasts, a place where they can discover, learn, and be inspired by the many stories that sport has to offer.

What are your specificities and strengths?

First of all, the main specificity of the Vestiaire à MoT lies in its focus on sport through the prism of literature. As a former sports journalist and long-time collaborator of a high-level sports club, I have always been fascinated by the ability of words to capture the very essence of sport: its emotions, its challenges, its triumphs, and its life lessons.

The Vestiaire à MoT is the crystallization of this dual passion.

It is a specialized bookstore where sports enthusiasts can find inspiring biographies, technical analyses, historical accounts, comics, protein recipes, and even poetic works related to the world of sport. Books and posters are in the spotlight at the Vestiaire, as a hundred works signed “sports à l’affiche,” a Nice-based company, are available to discover at 19 boulevard Joseph Garnier.

Each poster, each book selected, aims to enrich our understanding and love of sport. And for those who don’t want to leave the sports sphere, I have planned a small “OFFSIDE” island where you can escape without sweating! It is also possible to order all the books available from publishers.

But beyond being a simple bookstore, the Vestiaire à MoT embodies a living space.

I wanted to create a place where people don’t just come to buy a book but to have an experience This is reflected in the organization of writing workshops, coaching sessions, meetings with authors and athletes. There are also co-working spaces available daily, including two meeting rooms that can accommodate groups of 5 or 10 people for meetings or seminars.

Innovation is at the heart of the Vestiaire à MoT. By integrating elements of living space into the bookstore, the project positions itself as particularly inspiring in the cultural, sports, and business landscape.

It is a hybrid, adaptable, and evolving space, designed to meet the varied needs and expectations of our visitors. This versatile approach allows us to reach a wide audience, from avid readers to sports enthusiasts, to professionals looking for an inspiring place to work.

Finally, the passion that drives me is undoubtedly the most significant strength of the Vestiaire à MoT. This project is the culmination of many years devoted to sport and literature Every decision, every book selection, every event organized is the result of a deep commitment and a desire to share this passion with as many people as possible.

The Vestiaire à MoT is more than a bookstore; it is an invitation to explore, learn, and celebrate sport in all its forms with the widest possible audience.

Why did you choose the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis?

My decision to choose the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis as the home for the Vestiaire à MoT was not made randomly. Having lived in Nice since 2008, I have witnessed its cultural and sports dynamism, which has deeply inspired me. It is not only the beauty of Nice that attracted me here but also its wealth of internationally renowned sports events and the people who share a profound passion for sport in all its forms.

Nice and its metropolis offer an exceptional living environment where sport plays a central role, both for residents and visitors. From the Ironman to the arrival of the Tour de France, not to mention nautical competitions and exciting football matches, the region is a true crossroads for sports amateurs and professionals. This effervescence creates fertile ground for a project like mine, aiming to celebrate sport through literature.

Furthermore, the city of Nice’s commitment to sport and culture convinced me that the Vestiaire à MoT would find a receptive and enthusiastic audience here. This commitment shows a keen interest in developing initiatives that enrich cultural and sports life, thus providing valuable support to creative entrepreneurs.

I was also seduced by the perspective of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which are stimulating interest in sport throughout the country, including on the Côte d’Azur. Participating in this national momentum and contributing to the excitement around sport in the run-up to the Olympics were additional motivating factors.

How did Team Nice Côte d’Azur support you?

Team Nice Côte d’Azur’s support was crucial in making the Vestiaire à MoT project a reality. From the early stages of this project, I had the chance to benefit from the support of Sana Bouyahia and the Team Nice Côte d’Azur team, which manifested itself in several ways.

First, it was the human aspect and listening that struck me The Team Nice Côte d’Azur team offered me a space where my ideas and ambitions for the Vestiaire à MoT were taken seriously. They knew how to listen, advise, and guide my project with finesse and expertise.

One of the most valuable aspects of their support was the network they opened up to me. Team Nice Côte d’Azur put me in touch with key players in the territory, whether in the world of sport, culture, or entrepreneurship. These connections were crucial in building solid partnerships and integrating the Vestiaire à MoT into the local ecosystem.

But beyond the practical aspect, it was the encouragement and validation of my project by Team Nice Côte d’Azur that was most beneficial to me.

In summary, Team Nice Côte d’Azur’s support was a pillar in the development and realization of the Vestiaire à MoT. Their expertise, network, and support played an indispensable role in the success of this project.

What are your development projects?

Looking to the future of the Vestiaire à MoT, I am driven by a multitude of ideas and development projects that I would like to implement.

One of my flagship projects is to organize regular meetings with authors, athletes, and personalities from the world of sport. I imagine the Vestiaire à MoT as a place for debate, exchange of ideas, and sharing of experiences, where every visitor can find inspiration and motivation.

I also wish to develop workshops and seminars, offering a platform for any subject ranging from sports writing to sports psychology, nutrition, and physical preparation. hese workshops aim to provide practical tools and knowledge but also to encourage participants to share their own experiences and advice.

The idea is to create an open space for dialogue, where each member can express their point of view and enrich the debate with their own reading.

On the digital front, I plan to develop the Vestiaire à MoT’s online presence through the creation of an interactive website and the use of social networks. These will serve to promote our events and activities but also to share exclusive content, such as author interviews, book reviews, and articles on sport. The goal is to build an engaged online community and make the Vestiaire à MoT accessible beyond its physical walls.

What are the impacts for the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis?

The creation and development of the Vestiaire à MoT in the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis is not just the fulfillment of a personal dream; it represents a significant contribution to the cultural and sports life of the territory.

One of the most obvious impacts of the Vestiaire à MoT is the enrichment of Nice and its surroundings’ cultural offering. By focusing on sports literature, the bookstore offers a unique space where sports books are highlighted. This specialization not only attracts sports and reading enthusiasts but also fosters a greater appreciation of sports literature as a genre in its own right.

Furthermore, the events, workshops, and meetings we organize are designed to bring people from all backgrounds together, creating opportunities to learn, share, and debate.

Finally, the Vestiaire à MoT contributes to strengthening the attractiveness of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis as a cultural and sports destination. By offering a unique proposition, we attract not only local residents but also tourists and visitors from other regions, eager to discover the cultural and sports richness of the Côte d’Azur.
