An ambitious project supported by the French State
The Nice Service Express Régional Métropolitain (SERM) project, led by the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, has just been labeled by the French State. This label marks a crucial step in the development of transport infrastructure in the Sud region. The labeling, announced by Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice and President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, allows local authorities to benefit from funding for studies and projects aimed at improving daily mobility. This government support underlines the strategic importance of the SERM for the region.
Intermodality at the heart of the project
One of the strengths of the Nice SERM is its integration into the Nice Airport Multimodal Exchange Hub. This infrastructure, which will eventually bring together Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, a new TER and TGV train station “Nice Airport”, three tramway lines, a large bus station with ten platforms, urban and interurban buses, as well as bike facilities, is designed to strengthen intermodality. By facilitating connections between different modes of transport, this system aims to increase the attractiveness and efficiency of public transport in the area.
A regional collaboration
The success of this project is based on close collaboration between the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region and the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis. For several years, these entities have been working together to offer metropolitan residents a TER frequency of every 15 minutes during peak hours and throughout the day by 2025, covering the azure coast between Cannes and Menton. This initiative also includes an improved public transport offer to reach the railway stations of the territory, with three tramway lines and nearly 170 bus lines.
The SERM labeling is recognition of the collective work carried out with the Sophia Antipolis, Riviera française, Cannes Pays de Lérins, Pays de Grasse urban communities and the Principality of Monaco.
