Nice: The Only French City in the Top 10 Weekend Destinations

Nice is establishing itself as one of the most attractive tourist destinations in Europe, particularly for short stays.

Ranked among the top 10 European destinations for a weekend by Bounce, it is the only French city to feature in this ranking.

This ranking is based on several criteria such as cultural and gastronomic offerings and ease of access, particularly for international visitors.

An Exceptional Cultural and Gastronomic Offering

The cultural and gastronomic richness of Nice contributes to its renown. With 311 restaurants per 100,000 inhabitants, the city offers unparalleled culinary variety, surpassing cities like Barcelona or Amsterdam. Visitors can enjoy local cuisine influenced by the Mediterranean, all while experiencing a unique setting.

Culturally, Nice is equally impressive with 171 activities per 100,000 inhabitants, ranking among the best European cities in terms of artistic and historical offerings. Iconic places like the Matisse Museum or the Nice Opera testify to the city’s importance on the European cultural scene.

Attractiveness Enhanced by International Events

In addition to its permanent offerings, Nice has capitalized on major events to enhance its attractiveness. In 2024, the city hosted international events such as the arrival of the Tour de France, six matches of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, and the Women’s IronMan World Championships. These events not only attracted visitors from around the world but also generated significant economic benefits for the region.

The arrival of the Tour de France in Nice generated 60 million euros in economic impact, with a hotel occupancy rate reaching 98% during the event.

Nice’s tourism dynamics were further strengthened in 2024, consolidating its status as the first French tourist destination after Paris. The summer season report, presented by Mayor Christian Estrosi, confirms this trend with 266,000 visitors recorded during the Tour de France weekend, of which 55% were foreigners.

The Nice metropolis thus establishes itself as a key hub for major sporting and cultural events.

International Accessibility on the Rise

Nice Côte d’Azur Airport has played a crucial role in this international attractiveness. With a 3.7% increase in passenger traffic during the summer of 2024 and the opening of 21 new routes, including 13 long-haul routes, Nice positions itself as a strategic hub.

The airport saw a marked growth in connections to the United States (+44.1%) and Gulf countries, with a 120% increase in flights to Saudi Arabia.

This opening to international markets consolidates Nice’s attractiveness, particularly for foreign visitors seeking short stays.

An Attractive Setting Year-Round and Promising Prospects

In addition to its dynamic summer season, Nice is working to deseasonalize its tourism. In winter, 11 new air routes will be opened, allowing for continued high visitation. Major events are already planned for 2025, such as the United Nations Conference on the Ocean (UNOC) and the first future nautical exhibition, “Nice Boating Tomorrow.”

With an average annual temperature of 16°C and competitive hotel prices (an average of 195 euros per night), Nice positions itself as an attractive destination year-round.

The diversification of the tourist offering allows the city to remain a sought-after destination for visitors, whether for vacations, weekends, or professional events.
