Qualisteo receives the European Innovation Award and the Smart Award at Smart Grids Paris 2013

Founded in 2010, Qualisteo is a young innovative company based in Nice which uses partnership technological innovation to deal with environmental issues. Specialising in the field of smart grids, it counts some of the largest organisations on the domestic energy saving market among its clients.

The grand slam of awards:

  • Qualisteo has just won the European Innovation Award, ACES 2013 – Business Sciences category.  The award was presented by Jerzy Buzak, President of the European Parliament, for its technological skill, partnership-based innovation approach in the region and its tangible results in terms of the energy savings already witnessed in the area (French and European). The jury was comprised of renowned manufacturers (Microsoft, BP, SKF, etc.) and reputable universities (Cambridge, Imperial College, INSEAD…).
  • The company also won the Smart Grid 2013 award in Paris – Smart Building category. The award was presented to them by Delphine Batho, Minister of ecology, sustainable development, and energy for their “Wattseeker” offer which quickly and accurately identifies consumption by zone, devices and uses in buildings. The jury was comprised of industrial, institutional and academic experts.
  • Qualisteo’s awards collection: winner of the company creation talent competition, PACA innovation category (June 2011), winner of the “European Cleantech Challenge” of the Intesa SanPaolo bank (September 2011), winner of the best product awarded by BA 06 (January 2012), the SCS Cluster’s SME of the month (February 2012). In total the start-up has won 15 regional, national and international awards over the last 18 months. Its Lynx Wattseeker electrical consumption analyser was awarded best product of the year at the 2012 technology awards for the “Mesures” magazine, the benchmark publication in its industry.

Innovation successfully deployed with corporate customers:

The Nice-based start-up has developed the “LYNX WATTSEEKER” solution, a datalogger which, connected to the electrical switchboard of an industrial or commercial site, measures the real-time electricity consumption by zone and by usage. Data analysis using patented algorithms is used to identify anomalies and provide specific information to control consumption. “The deployment can be very quick, in 24 hours without modifying the facilities or installing sensors throughout the building”, explained Christophe Robillard. > Watch the pitch on video

An argument that convinced the SNCF to install the Lynx Wattseeker solution in Rennes, after already using it at the Versailles railway station. Depending on the circumstances, the savings generated using this diagnostic device can reach between 15 and 30% of the bill amount, without requiring a large investment.

Qualistéo has equipped the commercial and industrial sites of leading brands including Bosch (Rodez plant), Leader Price, McDonald’s, Bouygues, Alstom, Galeries Lafayette, EDF, GDF Suez, Veolia and Schneider Electric. A manufacturer and university in Norway are also part of the customer portfolio of the young Nice company.

A Nice success story

Created in late 2010, Qualisteo was the result of a research project conducted by the IM2NP laboratory (Institut Matériaux Microélectronique Nanosciences de Provence), supported by ADEME. After leaving the Paca Est Incubator, Qualisteo set up within the innovative business incubator of the Eco-Vallée in Nice. A member of Capenergies, the start-up was quickly accredited as a young innovative company. Qualisteo is based at the European Business Innovation Centre (EC BIC). Created in 2008 and accredited in 2012 by the European Business Network, the EC BIC is used to strengthen efforts to promote innovation, and develop in particular the sectors of green technologies, health and digital innovation across the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolitan Area. Based at the centre of the Eco-Vallée, in the Nice-Meridia urban technology park, this organisation supports project sponsors by backing the creation of new innovative companies but also by assisting existing companies to modernise and innovate. So the EC BIC supports and accommodates 35 companies across a 4000m² area, having generated over 180 jobs.

Qualisteo launched its business in 2012, targeting medium-sized buildings (industrial, commercial or public), with annual consumption costs between 300,000 and 700,000 euros. It specialises in detailed electricity consumption measurement and management systems. “We help building managers, public authorities and energy professionals to reduce their electricity consumption by over 15%”, explained Christophe Robillard, CEO of Qualisteo. The team currently has 18 employees.
