Innovative City, the international conference dedicated to the Smart City, that is being held in Nice June 16-17, will focus on the theme of Smart Buildings. The conference is also going to welcome the “3rd National Summit of Digital Modeling for Buildings and Connected Cities”. The conference will also be the location where the Manifesto “Next Generation Smart Cities: 10 principles for action” will be signed.
Digital Modeling will be highlighted, since it plays a vital role in transforming connected buildings into Smart Buildings. These buildings of the future claim to be durable, innovative, and completely integrable into the eco-neighborhoods that will cover the land by 2020.
Innovative City 2016 will also present the Manifesto “Next Generation Smart Cities: 10 principles for action”. The manifesto is the result of several partner institutions across the world working in the digitalization of buildings scaled to cities and territories:

Smart Building in the Côte d’Azur
The Côte d’Azur boasts the 4th smartest city in the world, Nice, and claims to be a leader in Smart Grids. The Côte d’Azur also is working to increase the number of projects that would develop Smart Buildings in the region:
► An Urban Environmental Monitoring system with 3,000 sensor deployed on a territory of 160 hectares in West Nice. This monitoring system would allow the use of environmental data (air and sound pollution, water and energy, landfill, etc) to test new services that would benefit habitants, companies, and communities.
► The Smart City Innovation Center, a collaborative platform to experiment new uses and services around the smart city and sustainable construction. The Smart City Innovation Center is open to everyone ( researchers, major industrial corporations in the region such as Veolia, IBM, m2ocity, and Orange among others, students, companies, startups, and the public) and frequently hosts conferences, and classes about smart cities.
► IMREDD (the Mediterranean Institute for Risk, Environment and Sustainable Development) is a new addition to the University of the Côte d’Azur. IMREDD is a place for experimentation and to validate technological projects from the soon-to-be Nice Meridia Science Park. The center will host 124 permanent researchers and 480 students that will be working on research projects sponsored by large corporations (Suez Environment, GDF, EDF, Vinci, IBM, Bouygues, or Alstom). The building meets the guidelines to be a Smart Building, its energy consumption is measured and doesn’t exceed 40kwh/m² over its total area of 4500sqm.
► Smart-Med Parks, Smart Model for Energy Management, a pilot project presented at the 2014 Innovative City Conference. The project, which is financed by the European MED program, aims to improve the energy efficiency of Science and Technology Parks and to contribute to a self-sufficient model of energy creation and consumption by employing Smart Grids. This model, test in 5 Science and Technology parks in Spain, Italy, France and Portugal, hopes to underline energy efficiency and use of renewable energies as the key factor for a competitive and viable economic model for parks in the Mediterranean Zone. Sophia Antipolis was selected as one the pilot areas for the project.
► Smart Campus Nice Sophia Antipolis, un projet qui s’inscrit dans la dynamique de la Région PACA, qui se veut leader dans le domaine des Réseaux Électriques Intelligents, et a été récemment labellisé par le Ministère de l’Economie. Le projet prévoit le déploiement d’un réseau électrique intelligent expérimental, d’abord sur le campus SophiaTech de Sophia Antipolis, puis au sein du futur Éco-Campus qui sera construit à Nice Méridia. L’objectif est de doter l’Université Côte d’Azur d’une plateforme d’innovation unissant les acteurs industriels et académiques des Smart Grids, et de faire de ces deux campus des références en termes de REI et d’optimisation des ressources en énergie.
► Smart Campus Nice Sophia Antipolis, is a project undertaken by the PACA (Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur) Region, the self-proclaimed leader in Smart Grids that was recently recognized by the Ministry of the Economy. The project calls for an experimental smart grid to be deployed on the SophiaTech campus at Sophia Antipolis and then in the future Eco-Campus that will be built at Nice Méridia. The goal is to the University of the Côte d’Azur an innovative platform that unifies the corporate players and Smart Grid academics. It is also hoped that makes these two campuses leaders in “REI” and energy and resource optimization.
There are also private investors working towards the smart and sustainable construction in the region. A smart office complex, the first positive energy building project in Sophia Antipolis constructed by Valimmo and Valenergies will soon be unveiled. French Tech Côte d’Azur startups are developping solutions that couver the entire range of Smart Grids and sustainable building management. A few noteworthy startups are: Qualisteo which has an electricity consumption measurement system that promotes a more frugal use of energy, and Izypeo, chosen by the Nicollin group (3rd in France for waste management) to manage its entire Quality-Security-Environment approach.
