Nice, a land of cinema, is preparing to enter a new era with the modernization of its emblematic studios, La Victorine.
Indeed, the city has chosen the group composed of Color, a subsidiary of Digital District Entertainment, and the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry to create a center of excellence dedicated to cinematographic and audiovisual production and visual effects.
The Victorine studios, taken over by the City of Nice in 2017, have already benefited from a modernization of their infrastructures, enabling them to host 160 days of filming in 2023, including 10 feature films. Winners of the “La Grande Fabrique de l’Image” call for projects initiated by the National Center for Cinema and Animated Image (CNC), the studios are ready to move up a gear.
The project, with a minimum investment of 35 million euros, plans to rehabilitate and extend the production facilities of the studios. A new 2,000 m² plateau will be specially designed to meet the high demands of the industry. Thanks to the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and Industry, an entrepreneurial hub bringing together industry players and a training center will strengthen the Victorine ecosystem.
Aware of the environmental footprint, the two partners are committed to developing equipment that respects carbon neutrality and eco-production. A project for energy production and recovery is being developed to reduce the studios’ carbon impact as much as possible.
This project, which is part of a sustainable development approach, represents an essential contribution to the sustainability of the film industry, from shooting to post-production. It will enable Digital District Entertainment to offer an eco-responsible and 100% French creation chain, proudly bearing the flag of the hexagonal know-how and culture of the image.
