The Nice Climate Summit, the first international event dedicated to biodiversity and climate, will be organized on September 26 and 27, 2024, at the Palais de la Méditerranée in Nice.

This initiative is led by the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur, the City of Nice, the South Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur Region, and La Tribune, aiming to bring together cities committed to combating climate change and preserving biodiversity.

The recently published report by the IPCC and IPBES demonstrates that climate change and biodiversity erosion are two closely linked crises that require a joint response.

The Nice Climate Summit aims to facilitate exchanges among experts from the economic, scientific, political sectors, academics, international researchers, committed personalities, and citizens involved in innovative solutions.

Nice, an international city at the heart of the Mediterranean, is a natural choice for this event

Indeed, The United Nations (UN) has selected Nice to host the 3rd United Nations Conference on the Oceans in June 2025., on behalf of France and Costa Rica, thus demonstrating the city’s commitment to building sustainable solutions against the consequences of climate change and in favor of biodiversity preservation.

Therefore, the Nice Climate Summit aims to be a place of reflection and exchange, where cities can play a key role in finding effective solutions to protect our planet and future generations.

About the 2023 Edition

Christian Estrosi, Mayor of Nice, President of the Nice Côte d’Azur Metropolis, and Deputy President of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur Region: “The global warming phenomenon is affecting our planet and we must collectively take action to mitigate this change and adapt to its consequences. Local communities are in the best position to provide concrete responses to these challenges, closest to the daily realities. As the mayor of a large city, and president of a metropolitan area that includes both coastal and mountainous regions, urban and rural areas, we are particularly exposed to extreme weather events. Our first role is to protect our activities and populations. We have taken responsibility by acting on all the levers of the ecological transition, aiming for a -55% reduction in greenhouse gases by 2030 and carbon neutrality by 2050. It is no coincidence that Nice, a green city in the Mediterranean, was recently chosen by the United Nations and the President of the French Republic to host the United Nations Conference on Oceans in June 2025, which will be a true COP for the preservation of our blue planet. Facing these challenges and with the ambition to become a true green and blue capital, the City of Nice and the Métropole Nice Côte d’Azur are partnering with La Tribune to organize the Nice Climate Summit in September 2023. This Climate Summit will bring together all stakeholders in the transition, public and private decision-makers, project leaders and innovators around an ambitious program with a European and international scope, with the aim of promoting concrete solutions in favor of the ecological transition.”

Jean-Christophe Tortora, President of La Tribune : “La Tribune has been the leading economic newspaper on environmental issues for over 15 years, with renowned specialist journalists. After organizing the 5th anniversary of the Paris Agreement in 2020 and launching a major editorial initiative in territories with our Zéro Carbone forums, it was natural for us to develop an international event in France bringing together our European and African editorial teams. Our choice was Nice, which is one of the major metropolises on the front line facing climate risks.”
