Team Nice Côte d’Azur Engages with Italy’s Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) Ecosystem

Italy Mission ICC

Axelle Xerri, Head of the Cultural and Creative Industries (CCI) division, and Jean-François Chapperon, Senior Manager of Foreign Direct Investments at Team Nice Côte d’Azur, will travel to Rome from November 13 to 15 to strengthen ties with European creative stakeholders and promote Nice Côte d’Azur as a hub for innovation, creation, and hosting of cultural and creative industries in Europe.

On this occasion, they will meet representatives of Italy’s CCI ecosystem at the iconic Cinecitta studios to gain deeper insight into the challenges and aspirations of Italian companies pursuing international growth. This mission will showcase the strengths of the Nice Côte d’Azur region in this strategic sector.

This initiative is part of a drive to foster international partnerships aimed at establishing new collaborations in cinema, audiovisual media, and the video game industry.

In the future, a mission to Milan is being considered to facilitate targeted meetings with leading Italian companies.

The mission will also include meetings with the French Consul in Rome and economic officials from the French Embassy and the Institut Français.

Nice Côte d’Azur: A Strategic Hub for CCIs in Europe

Nice and the Côte d’Azur are solidifying their position as a major player in CCIs in France and Europe, particularly in cinema, audiovisual media, and gaming. In 2023, the region saw remarkable growth in film production, with 551 projects and 1,604 shooting days, marking a 6% increase over 2022.

The city of Nice alone hosted nearly 600 shooting days on public grounds, an impressive 82% increase from the previous year.

The Victorine Studios, a landmark of Côte d’Azur cinema, play a central role in this ecosystem.

On September 1, 2024, Victorine Studios, a partnership between the Nice Côte d’Azur Chamber of Commerce and the visual effects and post-production company Color, officially took over site management, with €37 million earmarked for the site’s renovation and modernization.

This ambitious project will transform the studios into a cutting-edge complex with film sets, business offices, and a training campus, positioning Nice as an international center for audiovisual production and innovation in the CCI sector.

Université Côte d’Azur is also a key player in CCI education, offering strategic partnerships and unique programs in France to support this sector through education and innovation.

Nice: A New Hub for Gaming

The video game sector is experiencing rapid growth on the Côte d’Azur, driven in part by the arrival of ISART Digital in 2023. The school addresses the industry’s high demand for skilled managers in marketing, monetization, and digital technologies.

The campus welcomed its first students in 2023 and will be expanded by 2026 into an eco-campus, featuring a business incubator and student housing.

In 2025, Nice will host the EVO competition, the world’s largest fighting game tournament. This international event will further establish Nice as a premier destination for gaming professionals and will attract thousands of visitors, highlighting the depth of the local gaming ecosystem.
