A European Network Dedicated to Global Health
The Association of Veterinary Consultants (AVC) serves as a vital interface between independent veterinarians and European regulators. Recognized by the EMA and EFSA, it actively participates in strategic groups such as StaDG-ER, CVMP, the Big Data Steering Group (BDSG), and CMDv.
Nice played a strategic role for the AVC by hosting its 10th-anniversary celebration in France in 2023. This event brought together veterinarians from nine countries, showcasing the city’s ability to connect local and global stakeholders in animal and public health.
The association’s president, Dr. Rimma Ishimbaeva, who is also a member of EFSA’s Stakeholder Bureau and Emerging Risks Identification Group, plays a pivotal role in coordinating scientific and regulatory contributions at the European level. This involvement reinforces Nice’s strategic position as a hub of expertise in animal and public health.
An Annual Report Marked by International Engagement
During the 29th General Assembly of the AVC, held at the historic Anatomical Theatre in Utrecht, the board presented a comprehensive report. Under the leadership of Dr. Rimma Ishimbaeva, the association celebrated a new milestone with 60 members from 21 countries. The AVC participated in 40 stakeholder events and contributed to key consultations on topics such as the implementation of the EU Veterinary Medicines Regulation 2019/6, artificial intelligence in risk assessment, and animal welfare/3Rs.
Renowned speakers enriched the event, including Jana Schalansky, Head of the EMA Veterinary Strategic Office, and Kristina Paterson, Interim Director of Veterinary Regulatory Affairs. AVC members also shared their expertise on specific topics:
- Dr. Yuki Ujimasa (Japan): Efforts for stable veterinary medicine supply.
- Dr. Antoinette Tolkamp (Netherlands): Veterinary medicine shortages in the EU.
- Dr. Alessandro Agostini (Italy): Regulatory affairs in animal health and the environment.
Nice: A Strategic Anchor for the Future
Nice remains a key partner for the AVC, thanks to its infrastructure and connected health network. By hosting large-scale events, the city strengthens its role in fostering international collaborations in animal health. The ties between Nice and the AVC reflect a crucial dynamic in the context of the globalization of veterinary and food safety issues.
With the 30th General Assembly scheduled for 2025 in Bordeaux, the AVC continues its mission to unite veterinary consultants around global expertise.
